Pupil Premium Spending
What is it?
Pupil Premium is additional funding received by school for each pupil from disadvantaged families or backgrounds.
The funding is allocated to schools based on the number of children who meet one, or more, of the following criteria:
- eligible for free school meals (FSM)
- children looked after (CLA)
- adopted from care on or after December 2005
- from a service family
- who have been eligible for free school meals at any point within the past 6 years
How do we spend it?
It is our desire to improve the life chances of all pupil premium (PP) children. As a school, it is our intention to raise the attainment standards of children from low income families, service families, Children Looked After and adopted children.
We seek to promote rapid academic progress, narrowing and where possible eliminating the gap between these groups and non-pupil premium children. However, we firmly believe that improved life chances are measured by more than academic attainment.
At the heart of our pupil premium strategy is also the intention to increase aspiration and expose children to a wide range of life experiences. Our pupil premium strategy thus takes a holistic approach to education: we promote rapid academic progression but also seek to broaden children’s social and extra curricular opportunities. We recognise that not all financially and socially vulnerable children are eligible or registered to receive pupil premium funding. As such, we seek to ensure that other children identified as socially or financially vulnerable are able to benefit from the opportunities afforded by pupil premium funding.
What is it for?
We have been allocated this money to raise standards of achievement for pupils of low income families, service children, those in the care of the local authority and adopted children. We aim to improve the life chances and learning opportunities of pupil premium children.
We also recognise that not all pupils who are socially disadvantaged are registered or qualify for free school meals. We will also allocate Pupil Premium funding to support any pupil the school has legitimately identified as being socially disadvantaged and/or is vulnerable.
