Equality and Diversity
"You can't state difference and also state equality. We have to state sameness to understand equality."
As a co-operative school, equality is one of our key values.
At Southroyd we ensure that the themes of equality and diversity are an intrinsic part of our curriculum. Lessons, assemblies and events in our school calendar promote and celebrate our pupils, families and staff and all the many differences they bring to make Southroyd an increasingly rich and diverse family.
Equality Statement
We are committed to ensuring equality of provision throughout our school community. To achieve this, our equality objectives are as follows:
- To improve outcomes for pupils with SEND across the school
- To promote cultural development and understanding through a range of activities and experiences across the curriculum.
- To monitor the performance of all groups of children and narrow any observed and monitored gaps
- To ensure that the school environment is as accessible as possible for all pupils, staff and visitors
Our School Council reviewed what equality means to us at Southroyd and whether we could do more in school to ensure fairness and equality for all pupils.
At Southroyd, we use assemblies to review aspects of our PSHE curriculum, with themes of equality, diversity and social justice.
