Centred around the global International Mother Tongue Day (February 21st) we will have a celebration of international language.

We have a small minority of EAL children but will use these as a focus for our learning. Currently we learn French in school with Y2 and above, but will take the opportunity to widen our opportunities using linguists within school who will provide sessions in Spanish and German to promote and role model their love of language.

We will encourage children from different nationalities to teach elements of their own language and invite parents to come and enrich our understanding of global language.

We will liaise with our partner school in Bachpan, to explore the Hindi and Gujarati language, to celebrate their linguistic skill and reflect that their mother tongue is different to their school lead language.

Outcomes

Children will be immersed in a celebration of language both European and wider.

EAL children will have a chance to celebrate and share their mother tongue and celebrate their own language.

All children will be more accepting and aware of the mother tongue of some of their peers in school.
