"The safety and behaviour of children is outstanding... the school's work to keep children safe and secure is outstanding" (Ofsted, July 2015)
Keeping our children safe from all kinds of harm is a priority at Southroyd. Working as a community we need to be vigilant and keep our children safe. The school has a crucial role to play in this and works closely with social services and other agencies in the local and wider community to do this. In addition we work proactively to support children and their families so that crisis points can be avoided and help given where it’s needed. We have a duty to safeguard and as such referrals about suspected abuse or neglect may be made in line with our Safeguarding policy should we feel a child is at risk.
To report a concern if you are a member of the public:
During office hours
You can call Children’s Social Work Services on 0113 222 4403 (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm).
You can also discuss your concerns with someone who works with children and families, e.g. your health visitor, social worker, school nurse or teacher (all schools have a teacher responsible for child protection).
Out of office hours
If you think a child is in immediate danger please call the police on 999
The attached leaflet below is available to all visitors to school and accessible from the school office. The leaflet highlights the school child protection officers. The latest safeguarding policy is also available from policies page:
Sue Clifford (Chair of Governors) is in charge of overseeing Safeguarding in School.
We operate safer recruitment practices at Southroyd and all adults have to complete an appropriate DBS check before working on site in school.
A new NSPCC dedicated helpline will provide support and guidance to any victims of sexual abuse in schools.
The helpline provides both children and adults who are victims of sexual abuse in schools with the appropriate support and advice. This includes how to contact the police and report crimes if they wish. The helpline will also provide support to parents and professionals too.
Young people and adults can contact the NSPCC helpline on 0800 136 663
